News is what is new; it’s what’s happening. News is described as “a report of recent events or previously unknown information”. News is the communication of selected information on current events which is presented by print, broadcast, Internet or word of mouth to a third party or mass audience. Commonly, news content should contain the “Five Ws” (who, what, when, where, why, and also how) of an event. There should be no questions remaining.
News has two priorities
• It must be current.
• It must mean something to people.
A story about the environment and a story about the Oscars can both be newsworthy for different reasons.
